injector gasket

Even though the injector is a small part, it plays a very important role in the proper working of a car engine. This gasket sits between the fuel injector and the engine block. Injector gaskets (“o” rings) have one main job, creating a tight seal. What this means is, it prevents fuel from leaking out of the injector and making its way into the engine, and that's not a positive thing for the car. A proper seal is essential, as it ensures the engine functions properly and aids the vehicle in using fuel more efficiently.

Since you're already here, you should start looking for the injector gasket. To find it, a common position is right at or near the top of the engine block. Take a good look for a small round piece. There'll be a groove around its edge. This is the gasket that needs inspect.

A DIY Guide

After finding it, stripping the old gasket is the next step. Proceed with great caution as you do this. It could damage engine components you do not want to ruin. Once you have the old gasket out, be sure to clean the area thoroughly. Clean away any dirt or debris where the gasket sits. Very critical for the new gasket to seal correctly is a clean surface.

Bad fuel economy is one sign that your fuel injector could be failing. This could indicate that there is something wrong if your car is using more gas than it used to. If the gasket does not seal correctly, fuel may sputter or leak out of the injector. So the engine has to work harder, which will often mean it uses more gas than absolutely necessary. This is not just bad for your pocketbook, but bad for the planet, too.
